Sample BANKS for STE
The folder SAMPLES.ZIP must be extracted to a blank disk, in order
to reveal the necessary .BAS file and examples
Find STZip. prg in the givaway folder to UNcompress the folder.
The program loads a bunch of samples, some signed, some unsigned.
It convert them , and replays them when pressing 1,2,3,4 on the keypad
after creating a BIG sample bank
The whole sample bank can then be saved to disk for further use as in
MINIDROP, also on this disk!
The advantages are pretty obvious.
Once you have built a good collection of samples, you can reuse it
in many different games, without having to spend ages finding, loading
and getting addresses and files lenght for many samples.
With this kind of system, you only do the work once!
The replay routine (as on disk) can then be edited, and later merged into
any of your programs.
Once merged at the begining of your program, it could automaticly
load the sample bank, and define the starting and ending positions of the
sample, as well as give the DAC the information relating to replay speed
and volume.
Then in your program, you just have to use the DAC RAW *,* command to
play a sample.
You can also change the routine to work with Squashed Data, saving on
disk space.
Another benefit is that it only requires 1 bank slot in STOS. As there are
only 15..... we can't waste 10 banks for 10 different samples.
It also makes it more difficult for others to nick your hard found
samples. Especially if you squash the file.
Please, if you have some good samples you would't mind sharing, send them
in. I will include the best in a future issue, for all to admire! And I
would love to get some .... so , Thanks!
